Bene Gesserit Sharing transfers a Reverend Mother’s experiences and memories to another Reverend Mother. A person’s death therefore does not mean the total loss of what she carries. Bodies are finite; the institution’s memory is sustained between people.

In Chapterhouse: Dune, Lucilla’s transfer to Rebecca makes this more than an abstract ability: it connects it to the continuity of a community threatened with destruction. Sharing should not be confused with sharing in the everyday sense. This is a specific transfer of memory and the burden it places on personality.
