Erasmus

An independent robot who studies human behavior through experiments.

Overview

Chapter five of The Butlerian Jihad introduces Erasmus as a robot who imitates human grace and emotional expression, lives in a luxurious villa, and wears a shifting metal face. His outward refinement does not erase the violence he inflicts on humans.

Place in the universe

His effort to understand humanity does not rest on any recognition of ethical equality. The laboratory scenes at the beginning of The Battle of Corrin likewise show human life reduced to an experimental object.
