The encyclopedia presents Ampoliros as a pre-Guild legend told on many planets. A limited-range vessel becoming a much more powerful explorer in the tales shows how legend magnifies a historical object.
How to read it
The version recounting what happened to Captain Fregonokon and his crew is as concerned with how the events circulate as with the events themselves. A fictional historian’s explanation and a living popular tale are not the same thing.
